  • Consistent Wear: Keep your retainer on continuously unless instructed otherwise by the doctor.
  • Mealtime Care: Remove your retainer before eating and store it in its designated case to prevent loss or damage.
  • Daily Cleaning: Clean your retainer thoroughly once a day using a toothbrush and toothpaste with warm (not hot) water. Regular brushing eliminates plaque and keeps odors at bay. While orthodontic appliance cleaners like Efferdent® are acceptable, they should complement, not replace, brushing.
  • Safe Storage: When not in use, always keep your retainer in its protective case. Pets have a knack for finding and chewing on them!
  • Adjustment Period: Initially, speaking with your retainer may be challenging. Practice speaking, reading aloud, or singing to adapt more quickly.
  • Handle with Care: Retainers are delicate; handle them gently. If your retainer goes missing or is damaged, promptly contact our office. Never attempt adjustments on your own.
  • Appointment Attendance: Remember to bring your retainer to all scheduled appointments, facilitating effective progress monitoring.
  • Longevity Through Care: Retainer replacements can be costly, but with proper care, they can last for many years.
  • Water Activities: Remove your retainer before swimming to prevent any loss or damage.
  • Temperature Awareness: Protect your retainer from exposure to hot water, hot car dashboards, pockets, washing machines, and napkins.
